Personal Interests
My inspiration to become a doctor began when I had the opportunity to volunteer with the Peace Corps in El Salvador. I have always been interested in studying the sciences, and in my undergraduate years developed a strong passion for public health and social policy. Then, in 1997 as a Peace Corps volunteer, my passion for educating the local community on public health and their individual health needs became a major focus. I discovered that the more I educated people about their health, the more often they made healthier decisions. My Peace Corps involvement left a strong impact on me, and I decided to merge my interest in science and education with the practice of medicine. I attended medical school at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland.
My passion for education continued after residency, and I have taught family medicine residents for the past five years at the Providence Milwaukie Family Medicine Residency Program. In my new position with Northwest Primary Care I will continue to work actively on patient education.
I especially enjoy seeing entire families and watching them change and grow. Bringing the family unit together is very powerful in helping them realize their healthcare goals. I will continue to increase my pediatric and adolescent patient population. This is when I can make the biggest impact on future health.
In my spare time I love to read, attempt to garden, play the piano, and chase my toddler around. I still love to do yoga, but much less religiously than I did before a child!
I was in the Peace Corps in El Salvador from 1997-1999. I also broke my leg skateboarding as an adult, while in medical school!
